If you’ve been stationed at Pendleton long enough, you know how the storage game works around here.
You PCS in, you need a unit fast, you Google “storage near Camp Pendleton,” and the first results are all the big corporate chains with their $1 first month ads. Sounds great until month two, when the rate jumps to $280 for a 10×10 and keeps climbing from there. By the time you PCS out, you’re paying 30% more than when you moved in.
We’ve watched this happen to military families for years. It’s not right.
We’re Not a Corporation. We’re Your Neighbors.
Sentry Self Storage has been family-owned and operated in Vista for almost 40 years. Same location on Laguna Drive, same family. No investors, no corporate parent, no regional manager to tell us to raise rates.
We’re about five miles from the back gate at Pendleton. A lot of our tenants are active duty, reserves, or retired. Some are military spouses who need a unit while their partner is deployed. Some are families in the middle of a PCS who need somewhere to keep their stuff for a few months between duty stations.
We get it. Military life means moving a lot, and moving is expensive enough without getting squeezed on storage.
10% Military Discount — No Catches
We give 10% off our already-low rates to all active duty, reserves, veterans, and military families. That’s 10% off the actual price, not 10% off some inflated “standard rate” that nobody actually pays.
Here’s what that looks like right now:
A 10×10 — the size most families need for a one-bedroom apartment’s worth of stuff — is $165 a month. With the military discount, that’s $148.50. Go check what the chains off the 78 are charging for the same size. We’ll wait.
A 10×20 for a bigger move or deployment storage is $257. Military rate: $231.30.
And we lock your rate for 12 months. That means no surprise increases while you’re deployed or between duty stations. Your rate when you sign the lease is your rate for a full year, guaranteed.
Why Our Prices Are Lower (And Stay Lower)
The corporate storage companies have massive overhead — national ad campaigns, executive salaries, shareholder returns, call centers. All that money comes from somewhere, and it comes from your monthly rate.
We don’t have any of that. No marketing department. No TV commercials. No $50-per-click Google ads. Our office manager, knows most tenants by name, and actually picks up the phone when you call.
That’s why a 10×10 at Sentry costs $165 while the same unit two miles away at a corporate chain can run $220 or more. We’re not trying to maximize revenue per square foot. We’re trying to keep our neighbors’ stuff safe at a price that doesn’t make them wince.
Every Unit Is Drive-Up. No Exceptions.
One thing the big chains love to do is advertise a low rate on some interior unit on the third floor at the end of a hallway past two elevator rides. Then charge extra for ground-level drive-up access.
Every single one of our 403 units is ground-level, drive-up. Pull your truck right up to the door. Load and unload on your schedule. No elevators, no hallways, no extra charges for the convenience of not carrying your couch up three flights.
Gate hours are 6 AM to 7 PM daily — early enough for that 0600 formation at Pendleton and late enough to stop by after work.
We’re Here Because of Word of Mouth
We don’t have the budget to compete with corporate chains on advertising. What we have is 40 years of taking care of people in Vista, Oceanside, San Marcos, and Carlsbad. Families who stored with us ten years ago and come back. Neighbors who tell neighbors. Marines who tell their buddies in the unit.
That word of mouth matters more to us than any ad. If you’ve stored with us — or if you’re storing with us now — a Google review or a recommendation to a friend at Pendleton goes further than you’d think. It’s how we stay in business without raising prices.
